Visit Costa Rica’s first winery on this wine tour of the beautiful Cartago province. Learn how the high elevations, cool climate and unique geography has culminated and inspired the creation of the first ever winery in Central America. Enjoy a scenic tour of the Cartago province followed by wine tastings and winery tour of the Copey Estate Winery, lunch, and a visit to a Cafeteria to enjoy some premium coffee tasting.
Your tour begins from your accommodation in San Jose or the greater area where you will be transported south east to the stunning province of Cartago: well known for it’s stunning mountainous scenery and picture-esque valleys. Travel through to the El Tejar de El Guarco district, one of Costa Rica’s oldest settlements, and onwards through the Talamanca Mountain Range. If you’re lucky, on a clear day you can enjoy views of beautiful rolling valleys and even both the Pacific and Atlantic ocean as you make your way through the mountains.
Arrive at the Copey Wine Estate in the mountains of Copey de Dota, famous for being the first and only winery in Costa Rica and Central America. Known as an extreme winery due to its location and climate, Copey Wine Estate is one of 3 Corners Wine Project which is made up of Copey Winery in Costa Rica, a winery in the Negev desert in Israel, and a winery in the volcanic rocks of Moon Mountain of California. Here they house all three wines produced from the 3 Corners Wine Project as well as a very special liquor produced on site. Enjoy beautiful views and fresh mountain air as the winery sits at an altitude of near 7,500 ft (2,300 meters) above sea level.
Upon arrival you will be treated to a tour of the winery and vineyard where local experts will discuss the unique challenges of growing and cultivating grapes in Costa Rica and why this particular region has the right conditions to produce some truly excellent wine. Copey Wine Estate also grows golden berry and the winery is home to the only golden berry liqueur in the world! As well as tour of a vineyard, you will also get to explore one of the golden berry plantations and discover the inspirations behind the creation of Golden Rush. After the tour, you will gest to taste four wines from the 3 Corners vineyards of Costa Rica, Israel, and California, along with two presentations to drink the Golden Rush liqueur with pairing.
After your wine tour is complete, continue on to a delicious lunch to round out the day. This will be followed by a visit to a beautiful cafeteria which houses some of the best premium coffee in all of Costa Rica. Enjoy some tastings of this world class coffee sourced from this stunning region of Costa Rica, all before making your way back to the accommodation where your tour will conclude.
