Experience the thrill of seeing first-hand some of Costa Rica’s most magnificent and majestic visitors: the Humpback Whales. These seasonal visitors arrive to give birth and breed during two distinct seasons. With any luck, you will be able to see these incredible whales along with some other marine animals not far from the Southern Costa Rican shoreline of Ballena Bay on our Whale Watching Uvita Tour.

Starting at the facilities of Ballena Aventura, you will be provided with some fresh fruit and drink before taken to your boat. Your first stop will be either at the “Whale Tail” or Tombolo of Punta Uvita, Ballena Island, where you will be able to see some of the unique migratory and resident birds that inhabit this area. If conditions are right, you’ll also get the chance to enjoy a swim and/or snorkel in the refreshing waters of the pacific ocean. From here, you’ll move on to the other beaches that make up this national park including Uvita Beach, Colonia Beach, Arco Beach, Ballena Beach and Pinuela Beach, along with a visit of the famous and spectacular complex of Ventanas Caverns.

Throughout the journey, your experience crew will be on the look out for some of the spectacular visitors to this bay, starting with the magnificent Humpback Whales. During two seasons, these whales come in mass to either  breed or give birth and raise their young in the relative safety of the warm tropical oceans of Costa Rica.

Additionally, the team will also be on the lookout for dolphins that frequent these waters year round including Bottlenose Dolphins and the Pantropical Spotted Dolphin. If you’re lucky, you may even encounter the Rough-toothed Dolphin or False Killer Whale.

Finally, you will return to the Uvita Beach Station, where your tour will conclude.

An Absolute must for everyone’s bucket list. Whales are amazing, right by the boat! We saw 3 mothers and three babies! Incredible! Julio our guide, and Jefferson our captain did an awesome job!

Stunning, great staff, safe boats and we saw a school of mum Humpback whales with new pups, went out further to see a couple is large males (simply massive animals) – all breaching whilst flanked by dolphins. Went to a new area with larger bottlenose dolphins all around… Then went to stop at a beach area where they threw rocks to get coconuts down from a tree, show us how to break into them on one of the most impressive beaches we’ve ever seen. Stunning morning frankly.

The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, answering every question in detail. The boat was clean and spacious – we did not feel cramped and everyone had a good view of the water. Thank you for a wonderful experience and for going above and beyond to find the whales!

Friendly crew and staff, gave good explanations of the park, the animals and the area in very good English. The equipment, boat and snorkel gear were good quality. Best of all for us, was that they went the extra bit to give us a fantastic experience seeing breaching whales. Amazing!

Our guides were excellent. They were personable and it was obvious that they loved their job.

Fantastic trip out to see wildlife around the ocean. We spent the morning surrounded by ‘false killer whales’ which was INCREDIBLE! Just being out on the ocean looking back at the coastline is beautiful enough but this was amazing, and Edward our guide was so knowledgeable and told us so much about the animals and culture in Costa Rica. Definitely recommend ! Snorkelling was fun too!

We had a fantastic time seeing a mother and baby whale. Our tour guide Edward was lovely, very informative and knew so much about whales, birds and their environment. I also had a problem with my foot and all the crew were very accommodating to help me into the boat. We had a great day out and would totally recommend giving it a go!!
