Join us as we explore the rich Costa Rican forests on this two hour Tortuguero hill hike that leads to one of the most magnificent views in this area. From Tortuguero township, hop on a quick boat ride heading north up the river until you reach the Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge. You will then make your way through a trail which leads to an extinct volcano known as Cerro Tortuguero, better known as Tortuguero Hill. You will makes stops along the trail as your guide discusses the local flora of this region and its impact on the abundance of wildlife that can be found here. Your guide will also use his trained eyes to spot a variety of native fauna including sloths, monkeys, iguanas, frogs, toucans, green macaws, basilisks, and so much more. Enjoy the dense jungle trail as you make your way up the hill to lookout spot. Here affords some of the most spectacular views of the Tortuguero National Park and northern Carribean coastline. On a clear day, see river boats zip their way up and down the Tortuguero river as well as the main village on which your journey began! You will then make your way back down the hill and pass through the quaint township of San Francisco de Tortuguero, where you will board your boat back to the wharf where your hiking tour will conclude.

Though there is both a morning and afternoon tours, we recommend the morning tours if you would like to see animals as they are most active at this time. On both tours, your experienced guides will do their best to spot animals but please note we must play by mother natures rules and seeing particular animals is no guarantee.

Please be advised that Tortugeuro is a coastal forest and rain is frequent in this area. Therefore it is not guaranteed you will get an excellent view from the lookout point on the hill. A moderate fitness level is required.

Meet your guide in Tortuguero village. Here you will meet be given a briefing of your tour and what to expect before heading to the main wharf where you will make your via boat to Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge.

Embark on your guided hike through rainforests of Barra del Colorado as you begin your ascent of Cerro Tortuguero: an extinct volcano north of Tortuguero village. Your guide will make stops to discuss the various plant life and native animals of this region. Your hike will reach a lookout point on the top of the hill which, on a clear day, affords beautiful views of the Tortuguero river and coastline – all the way down to Tortuguero Village. Take this time to capture that perfect photo before making your way back down the hill with a walk through the small township of San Francisco de Tortuguero were you will board your boat back to the village,
