Our Tortuguero canoe tour promises a wetland adventure like no other! Explore the incredible canals and jungle rivers of Tortuguero National Park on this canoe tour. Board a canoe with an expert guide and immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of the jungle canals and encounter the incredible wildlife that inhabit this remarkable Costa Rican habitat. You can assist your guide in the paddling of your canoe, making for the ultimate jungle adventure.

Your adventure commences in the charming township of Tortuguero, where an experienced guides will escort you to the main wharf where your canoe awaits. After a brief orientation, you’ll receive life vests, board your canoe, and head towards the enchanting Tortuguero National Park with its numerous hidden waterways and narrow jungle canals where motorized boats cannot enter. Surrounded by lush tropical rainforest on either side, you’ll slowly navigate through winding jungle rivers to spot the variety of native animals found amongst the trees and forests edge. On any given day you can spot a vast number of animals such as sloths, monkeys, basilisks, iguanas, toucans, macaws, caimans, river turtles, and more. Your expert guide will use his keen senses and trained eye to help you spot these remarkable animals along the rivers edge. Work as a team as you paddle your way through the dense river jungles, making numerous stops to get that perfect photo.

Upon completing your expedition, your group will return to Tortuguero village where your tour will conclude.

Please note: This tour does not include entrance to the national park – this can be paid to the park warden before the tour embarks.

Each canoe for this tour holds up to 8 travellers. Paddles are offered to everyone. Private tours are available on request – please use the contact form on our contact page to request a quote.

Though there is both a morning and afternoon tours, we recommend the morning tours if you would like to see animals as they are most active at this time. On both tours, your experienced guides will do their best to spot animals but please note we must play by mother natures rules and seeing particular animals is no guarantee.

If you are carrying a camera or phone for photos, please be sure to bring something to protect them from the water. Being a dense coastal rainforest, it can rain a lot in this area and it’s not uncommon for a little water to splash into the canoe from the paddles.
