Explore the city of San José on this half day tour of Costa Rica’s capital city! Learn about the city’s unique culture and history while visiting some of the landmarks, museums and historical sights, including the National Theater, Gold Museum, as well as visits to several other important sites including universities, the old train station, central market, parks and much more. All the while your guide will teach you about the unique history, culture, economics, politics, religion, and current affairs of our capital city that has forever shaped Costa Rica to what it is today!
Once picked up from your accommodation you will be transported to the National Theater of Costa Rica, an iconic landmark of the city and better known “The Jewel of San José”. This national monument, built in 1897, is in architectural masterpiece and features some of the most stunning artwork that the city has to offer. To this day the theater still hosts a number of high quality productions, with the lobby and auditorium featuring some truly spectacular and lavish furnishings. On this tour you will be permitted to enter the lobby and see for yourself some of the incredible interior design which attracts concert goers from far and wide!
Opposite the National Theater sits the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum in the Plaza de la Cultura. This fantastic museum boasts more than 3500 artifacts including a vast array of golden figurines, necklaces, and animal models – some which date back to 400 BCE. This fascinating museum allows you to take a glimpse into the history of Costa Rican before the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500s and gives insight into why it was named Costa Rica or “the rich coast” by European settlers.
After spending some time at the museum, the tour will move onto a central market, a place filled with local crafts where you can pick yourself up a handmade souvenir, followed by a visit to the beautiful Metropolitan Cathedral of San José. You will then travel through the city to see some of the many other locations of cultural and historical significance including the University of Costa Rica, the Old Train Station, the National Liquor Factory, the Supreme Court of Elections, the Legislative Assembly, the Metallic Building, and other places of interests. This is where you will learn about the history of the city as well as the economical and cultural impacts which have shaped our nations capital.
Finally there will be stop to an art gallery before heading back to your accommodation where your tour will conclude.

Pick ups are available from your hotel throughout San Jose and the greater area. If your accommodation falls outside of the pick up area, then we will arrange a pick up location where you can meet your driver/guide.
Child pricing is between the age of 3 to 11 years of age. For infants under the age of 2 years of age their is a charge of $18.00 USD. Private tours for groups are available on request – please use the contact form on our contact page to request a quote. Tour is subject to minimum numbers of 2 adult passengers – if numbers are not met, then you will be put on stand by until we can confirm or arrange an alternative date of departure.
Cancellations must be made a full 48 hours prior to the tour embarking, otherwise a penalty of 100% will be applied. Likewise there will also be a 100% penalty for no shows.
