Explore the natural wonders of Rincón de la Vieja on this full day tour from Guanacaste. From your accommodation in Guanacaste, head to Rincón de la Vieja National Park and join a 2 hour long hike to view the incredible wildlife and volcanic activity of this region. This is followed by a swim at the Oropendola Waterfall – one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful waterfalls, a buffet styled lunch, and a dip into a natural hot spring with the option of a volcanic mud bath.

Your tour begins at your hotel or accommodation along the Guanacaste coastline, where your tour guide will pick you up from one of the many beaches and townships the province, starting from Tamarindo all the way up to Playas del Coco and Liberia (full list of pick up spots are listed below). You’ll then make a stop for coffee and/or breakfast before making your way to the Pailas Sector to begin your hiking trail of this incredible national park.

You will meet up with your experienced guide, a native to Rincón de la Vieja, who will assist in your two hour hike by pointing out much of the native flora and fauna of this area of Costa Rica. On any given day, you may see Toucans, Monkeys, Coatis, Sloths, and so much more. Along the way you will also be able to view much of the volcanic activity of the national park. This will include numerous bubbling mud pools, fumaroles, and even a mini crater. Learn how Rincón de la Vieja’s volcanic activity has drastically shaped the landscape and has created some of the most distinct and beautiful spots in Guanacaste.

With your hike finished, you will then take a short walk slightly off the beaten path to one of the most spectacular waterfalls and swimming posts in all of Costa Rica. The Oropendola Waterfall offers a stunning waterfall combined with crystal clear water like you have never experienced before. Get into your swimsuit and jump into this incredible blue lagoon which attracts both locals and tourists alike from miles around. Let the turquoise waters of Oropendola rejuvenate your skin or spend your time exploring this hidden gem in the rainforest.

After enjoying a refreshing swim, your guide will drive you a short distance to Hacienda Guachipelin to enjoy an excellent buffet styled lunch which caters to a number of dietary preference and restrictions including vegetarian, gluten free, and vegan options. Here you will be able to choose from many choices of entrees and sides while also enjoy your fill of salad, dessert, refreshing juice, coffee or tea.

Once lunch is complete, it will be time to head straight to the Rio Negro Hot Springs which features ten thermal pools. These pools are naturally heated by the vast network of underground lava chambers which channel their way around the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. Enjoy the soothing, clear mineral waters which well known for their rejuvenating and relaxing qualities. While you’re here, why not treat yourself to a volcanic mud bath by smothering the rich volcanic clay over your body just like a “spa masque” before washing it off and enjoying the hot springs.

Finally, rejoin your guide transport you back to your accommodation where your tour will conclude.

The hiking part of this tour of a moderate level of difficulty and includes a moderate amount of walking (about a two hour hike). This tour is not suited for those with heart conditions, mobility problems or other serious medical conditions.

This tour operates rain or shine. Please note that on rare occasions, the turquoise colours of the Oropendola Waterfall can turn brown after a heavy rainfall. Rain boots can be rented and ponchos can be bought at the park entrance if necessary. Please use reusable water bottles on this tour as we do not like to bring single use plastic into the national park. We have a large water container to refill reusable water bottles and can provide reusable bottles too if you don’t have one.

Pick ups are available from the following hotels, accommodation, and beaches: JW Marriott, Langosta/Tamarindo, Playa Grande, Play Conchal, Playa Flamingo, Potrero, RIU Hotels, Playa Ocotal, Playas del Coco, Playa Hermosa, Playa Panama, Planet Hollywood, Andaz, Four Seasons, and Liberia Hotels, Condos, & Houses. Please state your accommodation when booking this tour. If your accommodation falls outside of the pick up area, then we will help arrange a pick up location where you can meet your driver/guide.

Tour is subject to minimum numbers of 2 adult passengers – if numbers are not met, then you will be put on stand by until we can confirm or arrange an alternative date of departure.

Cancellations must be made a full 48 hours prior to the tour embarking, otherwise a penalty of 100% will be applied. Likewise there will also be a 100% penalty for no shows.
