Join us on a boat tour through one of the most biodiverse regions in Costa Rica. Make your way from your accommodation in Guanacaste to Palo Verde National Park, well known for it’s wetlands and large variety of wildlife. Embark on a 1 hour and 20 minute boat safari on the Tempisque River followed by traditional Costa Rican meal and a visit to the famous Guaitil Pottery village which is well known in Costa Rica and Central America for its pre-Columbian Chorotega style pottery.
Your tour begins at your accommodation within Guanacaste and the coastline of the Nicoya Peninsula, where your tour guide will pick you up from one of the many beaches and townships, starting from Tamarindo all the way up to Playas del Coco and Liberia (full list of pick up spots are listed below). You’ll then make the hour long journey through the back roads of Guanacaste’s Sabanero Province to Palo Verde National Park. Enjoy the scenic drive as we make our way to the banks of the river.
Once we have arrived at Tempisque River on the border of the national park, you will then start your roughly two hour long tour on the river through the murky rivers of this special region. Palo Verde National Park is comprised of over 50% wetlands and is one of the most biodiverse regions in Costa Rica. The national park is home to an abundant of native animals including over 600 species of both local and migratory birds, making it a real treat for bird enthusiasts. Your naturalist guide will be sure to point out all the incredible fauna and flora of this national park as you slowly make your way through the mangroves and winding rivers. On any given day you may be able to view storks, egrets, spoonbills, grebes, scarlet macaws, monkeys, iguanas, anteaters as well as crocodiles and caimans, which can often be seen just around the banks of the river.
With your boat safari complete, we will then be taken to a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious Costa Rican lunch called a Casado which includes your choice of entrée, rice, beans, salad, plantains, and more. We are also happy to meet any dietary preferences or restrictions.
Before heading back to your accommodation, we will make one last stop at the Guaitil Pottery Village, well known in these parts as the pottery capital of Costa Rica. Here you will learn and be shown the ancient techniques of hand crafted pre-Columbian Chorotega style pottery, using methods and traditions that have been passed down for centuries within the Chorotegan culture. You may even be able to purchase some of this beautiful pottery to take back with you if you so choose!
Finally, make your way back to your accommodation where your tour will conclude.
