Join us on an unforgettable journey to explore the rich biodiversity and scenic beauty of Monteverde on our Sloth, Hanging Bridges & Butterfly Garden tour. From your accommodation in Guanacaste, you will head to the stunning cloud forests of Monteverde where you will enjoy full tours of a very special sloth sanctuary followed by lunch, a guided nature walk through Monteverde’s famous hanging bridges, and a visit to the charming Monteverde Butterfly Garden. This full-day adventure offers a perfect mix of wildlife encounters and awe-inspiring landscapes, making it an ideal experience for nature lovers and adventurers alike.

Your tour begins with a pick up from your accommodation at one of the many beaches and townships of Guanacaste (see full list below) before making your way south-east to the stunning mountain village of Monteverde. This beautiful region lies approximately 4,600 ft (1,400 m) above sea level and its unique geography means that the national parks of this area perpetually covered in fog and clouds. This allows for Monteverde to host some of the most beautiful and biodiverse rainforests in Costa Rica, all of which are teeming with flora and fauna! It’s also scenically spectacular with wide valleys and stunning mountain views.

Begin your tour with a visit to the renowned sloth Sanctuary at Selvatura Park, where you can observe up to 20 different sloths in a specially designed sanctuary which closely resembles their natural habitat. These charming creatures are free to roam between specially designed paths, providing excellent opportunities for viewing and learning about their fascinating lifecycles. These particular sloths are all recued by the sanctuary and cannot be reintroduced safely back into the wild. As you of which, the sanctuary provides these sloth with a second chance at life and helps spreads awareness of the conservation efforts of these incredible animals. As you walk through the sanctuary, you’ll be immersed in the lush forest surroundings, with sloths moving gracefully among the trees and specially designed structures that mimic their lives in the forest.

With the sloth sanctuary complete, you will be treated to a delicious lunch before moving onto a thrilling guided 1.9 mile (3 kilometer) walking tour above the forest canopy on Monteverde’s famous Hanging Bridges. You will be able to enjoy up to eight different hanging bridges all varying in lengths and altitudes, with the longest being 510 feet (170 meters) long and altitudes of 180 feet (60 meters) at its highest points. If conditions are just right, you’ll feel as if you’re walking through the clouds, surrounded by untouched rainforests that are teaming with wildlife. Throughout your walk, your guide will make frequent stops to observe some of the local flora and fauna that are unique to this area. This is also one of the best places in the country to view the beautiful resplendent quetzal and, with any luck, you may be able to spot one of these stunning birds with its incredible bright green plumage and long tail feathers.

To cap off your tour, visit the enchanting Monteverde Butterfly Garden, home to a dazzling array of native butterfly species. Costa Rica is home to around 1500 different butterfly species with many of them found right here in this sanctuary. Stroll through the garden’s vibrant environment, where you can marvel at the beautiful colors and patterns of these delicate insects.

With your walk through the butterfly garden complete, you will rejoin your coach and be transported back to your accommodation in Guanacaste where your tour will conclude.

Child pricing is set between those aged between 4-10 years of age.

Private tours for groups are available on request – please use the contact form on our contact page to request a quote. Tour is subject to minimum numbers of 2 adult passengers – if numbers are not met, then you will be put on stand by until we can confirm or arrange an alternative date of departure.

Cancellations must be made a full 48 hours prior to the tour embarking, otherwise a penalty of 100% will be applied. Likewise there will also be a 100% penalty for no shows.
