Experience some of the best attractions of La Fortuna in one day! Start with a hike around the national park of Arenal Volcano, followed by stop at one of Costa Rica’s best natural wonders: La Fortuna Waterfall, and finish off with a spectacular wildlife tour of Mistico Hanging Bridges Park. All of that with hotel pick ups/drop offs and lunch included. This full day tour offers the perfect combination of nature, adventure and wildlife amongst the beautiful back drop of Arenal Volcano.
Your tour begins with a hotel pick up where you will be transported to the entrance of Arenal Volcano National Park. Here we will begin our three and a half kilometer (2 mile hike) around the base of the volcano. Enjoy the many wonders of this national park, including spectacular flora which grows abundantly thanks to the rich soils of this volcanic park. If you’re lucky, you even be able to enjoy some of the incredible Costa Rican animals too which are frequent visitors to this area. Your guide will be sure to explain the natural history of the volcano as well as highlight some its most recent eruptions along with some of the youngest igneous rock formations you may ever see being only a few decades old. The hike will also include a stop at the pristine El Silencio Reserve which offers one of the closest views of the magnificent Arenal Volcano.
With your hike complete, it’s time for a bit of fun and adventure as we travel to one of the most popular attractions in the area: the La Fortuna Waterfall. This 75 meter (246 ft) waterfall is truly a sight to behold and attracts tourists and locals from miles around. Start from the main lookout point of the falls where you can get some excellent photos before descending the steps down to reach the base of the waterfall. Once you have arrived and snapped up a few more excellent photos, you can then enjoy this time at your leisure. Pop on a swimsuit and take a dip in the pools or use this time to relax and take in the stunning surroundings. Once we have made our way back to the entrance, we will head to a local restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious typical Costa Rican lunch.
Finally it will be time for our last activity of the day at the Mistico Hanging Bridges Park where you will begin your wildlife and nature tour. This beautiful protected reserve boasts an incredible 16 bridges, with 6 hanging and 10 stationary, and a network of trails that bends through the valleys and hillsides of a lush, tropical jungle. See towering trees and an array of beautiful flora on this 3 kilometre (1.9 mile) looped hike. Make periodic stops to both observe and learn about not just the plants and trees of this stunning park, but also the abundance of animals that live here too. On any given day, you may be fortunate enough to see monkeys, sloths, agoutis, lizards, snakes, frogs, toucans, parrots, and much more. Your naturalist guide will be able to point out animals you may otherwise missed and give you a closer look thanks to high power viewing scopes. The hike also includes crossings of the famous hanging bridges where you can, on a clear day, enjoy unobstructed views of La Fortuna and Arenal Volcano in the distance as well as a birds-eye view of the forests canopy below.
With the wildlife walk complete, it will be time to head back to your accommodation where you tour will conclude.
